American Darwinism

So who is more American--the war hero who saved his crew member from death or the senator's son who escaped real service because of his name?

Actually I don't find Kerry or Bush very heroic. Kerry would be heroic in my eyes if he'd just defend his stance against the Vietnam war. It was a war of economics, power and greed. This is a war of economics, power and greed. Just say it. Just fucking admit it to yourself and to the American people for goodness' sake. Vietnam... Iraq... both slaughterhouses to protect the capitalist ideals our rich and powerful hold so dear. Neither protected America. Neither made us safer from terrorism. Iraq is making it more dangerous for Americans to travel in the world.

Fuck that. I'm getting a Canadian flag and sewing it to my clothing, my luggage and stamping it on my forehead. Where ever I go, I'll sing the boring, Celine Dionesque Canadian anthem and pretend I don't know that New York City and New York state are two different entities. I'll pretend to think hockey is the greatest thing since the mullet, and I'll drink plenty of Labbatts and Molson (which isn't a problem really; Canadians do make better cheap beer).

I suggest all Americans do it--except those who still plan to vote for Bush. For those of you who believe he really is best for America, please wear the American flag while traveling abroad. When in the middle east, drive an SUV down the dessert roads, blast God Bless America out of your subwoofers, and make sure to plaster that oil sucking, son of a bitch with Ol Glory so that Muslims can experience the beauty that is Republican American pride. While doing it put that chin up in the air and assert that your country has made the world a lot safer. Do that, please. And bring a camera. It will be fun watching Darwin in action.

I Need a Hero

So I don’t feel inspired today. Probably because there just isn’t a lot to be inspired about. John Kerry has gone back to his boring centrist ways. Ralph Nader sold out stadiums in 2000; now maybe he has just sold out.

Who can we believe in today? Where is the average American to go to for inspiration?

Yet, I have been inspired and excited lately by, not individuals, but by my computer. Blogging is bringing democracy back to journalism and ideas. Organizations like Moveon have found new ways for ultra busy citizens to organize and effectively make change (and put all too needed pressure on the democratic party to get a backbone and become truly progressive). They have been effective, and most importantly they have made the average person feel empowered again.

I just hope we will learn to better complement this new found democratic community movement with exercise--cause I'm only getting fatter.

Katie Couric is the Dream

The American Dream.  Ahhh, that allusive son of a bitch!  I tried to find him in Gatsby, Thompson and Hollywood, but I was always left with nothing but doubt.  Does he really exist?  Is he the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?  If a true-blooded American like me can’t put my faith in him, what can I?  Shit, not even God, that terrible fascist, can be counted on if there is no American Dream.  Hasn’t every president since the first George asserted that America is God’s country, and our wars, our grand schemes and dreams his own?  It's divine province to be free to make what ever money I want to make just as long as I work hard, pray hard, and always remain pleasant.  That’s the American Dream!  That’s what I’ve been searching so hard for.  Where is he, it, she, the fuck?  I’ve worked goddamn hard.  I worked twelve hours a day 7 days a week in the factory; I’ve worked two jobs going back and forth back and forth, cutting meat serving factory made food at Applebee’s, cutting meat serving factory made food at Applebee’s—all while smiling despite people’s shit.  And I’m still dirt poor. 

I would be content if I were to think I was some kind of fluke—some twisted joke from God.  An example like Jesus to show people he has a sense of humor.  But I’m not the only one.  There are millions more like me with the same story.  And the debt we carry is exacerbated by the right of the banks and the power companies and the oil industry to make as much as they goddamn can!  They are living the American dream! 

That’s where he is!  He’s a mutherfuckin insurance agent with his giant foot on the veins of middle and lower class America; laughin it up with his buddies in oil and energy.  Their favorite practical joke is to extend a ladder down to us, and when we begin to climb he pisses in our faces and moves our jobs to Mexico.  Fucker.  God damn it.  I think I really found him.  Maybe I need to stop this blog—and I was just beginning.  I had hope…

Oh…TV…there’s Katie Couric and Matt Lauer…aaaahhhhh….  Lovely fluffy, buybuybuy.  American Dream, you are out there, and you’re sexy and handsome, drink Coke, drive a Hummer, and live on Long Island.  I just need to work hard and find my way there to you. 

Halliburton Whores

According to the Washington Post, today the Bush administration responded to allegations that a Cheney-lead Halliburton illegally did business in Iran, despite sanctions, by saying, "This was the daily baseless political attack by the Democrats… Today the hatchet man was Frank Lautenberg. . . . This is an attempt by the Kerry campaign to avoid a discussion of the issues."
 
If this is not an “issue,” then what is!?  Should the democrats concentrate on what they have been for the past two years—sucking a lot of dick—each others and especially our fearless, Patriot Act loving leader so that they can be more American then the next guy?  Sucking dick does seem to be an “issue” in the Republican’s guidebook.  Monica was so much more important to criticize Bubba on then fucking NAFTA.  A provision of this free trade agreement allows corporations to sue entire governments for passing laws that “infringe” on their investments (most of which are health environment and labor protection laws that are meant for the public good). 

Of course the Republicans love free trade now too.  They love it so much they gave Dubbya the power to enter into trade agreements without going through legislature.  They gave up a constitutional power so that Dubbya can enter into trade agreements and sign away labor rights and the environment quicker and with less public scrutiny!
